LesserEvil Snacks is a company you may not have heard of just yet, but all that is about to change, mainly because we are going to talk about and review almost everything they make. The company says: “Our leap of faith into healthy snacking was back in 2004, since then it has been 8 years and millions of delicious snack servings across the United States. We continue our commitment to making all-natural snack food with healthier ingredients. Our first product launch under the LesserEvil brand was a line of all-natural Kettle Corn, which eventually led to our second product; a more innovative puffed potato snack called, Krinkle Sticks”. Their Krinkle Sticks come in four different flavors such as Cheddar, Sour Cream & Onion, Veggie and Sea Salt; while their Kettle Corn comes in Classic and Black & White. They have recently introduced a brand new product line called Chia Crisps, of which we hope to be bringing you in the near future. You can find LesserEvil Snacks at your local grocery and health food stores, as well as online retailers, which means you shouldn’t have too many problems getting your hands on some healthier snacks. To learn more about LesserEvil Snacks, be sure and head to their web-site for more information on their line of healthier snacking products.
We started our review off with their line of Krinkle Sticks, with the first flavor coming in the form of Cheddar. As you can see from the picture below, the sticks look like any ol’ snack, with the main differences coming in the form of ingredients, nutrition and taste. They taste like Cheddar cheese, and that’s pretty much the only thing we were hoping to find with this healthier alternative. Texturally, it’s like a harder version of a Cheeto puff, which means it should be enjoyed by most of you reading this review. Next, we tried out their Sour Cream and Onion variety, and this was one of the flavors that we weren’t quite sure if they could pull off or not. We are happy to say that this flavor actually tastes like sour cream and onion chips or dip, and is a nice addition to the LesserEvil family of flavors. Their Veggie flavor gets its name from rather unusual list of ingredients–Spinach Flour, Quinoa Flour, Broccoli Powder, Onion Powder and Garlic Powder—to name just a few. Lastly, we tried out their Sea Salt Krinkles, of which are pretty standard in the sea salt flavored world of potato chips and other snack foods. The sea salt flavor is obviously the most classic version they offer, but it wasn’t our favorite when compared to the other delicious flavors that they offer. We took a look at their Classic Kettle Corn next, and we’re not really sure why it’s a lesser evil in terms of snacks, but the company says it’s because it’s all-natural, gluten-free, whole grain, contains no preservatives, and has less fat than traditional kettle corn. The overall flavor of this kettle corn is pretty good, and tastes just like something you would find at the state fair. Their Black & White Kettle Corn got its name for the simple fact that it’s a mix of classic and cocoa kettle corn. The addition of the cocoa kettle corn is quite amazing, and we’re not sure why other companies haven’t tried to copy it yet. This kettle corn has a unique combination of flavors, as well as the right balance of sweet and salty notes. Needless to say, the bag of black & white kettle corn disappeared rather fast, and we think that’s all that needs to be said. Overall (4.5 out of 5).
The pros are that they have a nice variety of flavors and products to choose from, you can find them nation-wide at grocery and health food stores, everything tastes great, the black & white kettle corn combination is amazing, and it’s a healthier alternative that actually tastes good.
The cons are that you might go overboard simply because you think it’s a healthier option to potato chips.
