If you haven’t heard of General Mills, we’re not sure where you’ve been; however, you may not be aware that they make something called cereal bars. These cereal bars are made for many of their most popular cereals on the market today, but this review will focus on one in particular–Cinnamon Toast Crunch. Their bars are supposed to taste exactly like the cereal, but we weren’t so sure that General Mills would be able to make that happen. Judging from the ingredients list on the back of the wrapper, this bar shares a lot with its cereal counterpart, and we’d be lying if we said we weren’t just a little excited to actually take our first bite. If you haven’t checked out the Food Review 101 Facebook page yet, what are you waiting for?!
The picture below shows you just what we’re dealing with here, and it doesn’t really look like anything we’ve ever seen in the cereal before. We were hoping to find big pieces of cinnamon toast crunch dotted throughout the bar, but what we saw was more of a traditional and cheap knockoff. The cinnamon flavor is just OK, but it’s fairly easy to make anything taste like cinnamon. The bar was actually not too sweet, which surprised many of our tasters, because we were really expecting it to be an overload of sugar–much like the actual cereal. Eating cereal without milk seems like a crime, and in the case of the Cinnamon Toast Crunch cereal bar, it’s no different. The bar is just missing something to really make it stand out, but one of our testers mentioned that they had introduced a new Cinnamon Toast Crunch bar that actually has a thin layer of “milk” sandwiched in-between two layers. Perhaps we’ll need to check out the updated version, because this cereal bar just wasn’t doing it for anyone. If you’re in a time crunch, just eat your cereal fast or just don’t eat it at all, because the cereal bar definitely isn’t the solution. Overall (2 out of 5).
The pros are that it has some cinnamon flavor in it, it’s portable, and you can find it fairly easy at any grocery store or gas station.
The cons are that it doesn’t taste like Cinnamon Toast Crunch, and it’s got a decent amount of sugar in it.
